I Have Been Dealing With A Lot Of Swelling Down There. Is There Anything That Helps The Swelling Besides Sitting On An Ice Pack All Day?

I’m so sorry. That absolutely makes sense. I’m not sure why it gave me relief with this last one to just use the shower head on it. My bathtub is just too small for traditional sitz baths. I wish I could find it, but I recently read an abstract that stated keeping them covered with regular vaseline (you can get this in a clinical version to avoid allergens) can give an effect like a hydrocolloid bandage, and allow it to heal in a safe and sealed environment. It may be worth looking into if you don’t have a known sensitivity to petroleum jelly.

I know for others they do, but for me personally, they make things worse because I have very sensitive skin in that area. I can't even take baths with plain water without having irritation happening.

Hi! I am currently dealing with this as well. Do sitz baths help you?

Certainly! Here are some options to help reduce swelling associated with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS):

- Cool Compresses: Apply a cool, damp cloth or an ice pack to the affected area for about 5 to 10 minutes. This can help reduce swelling and provide relief.
- Warm Compresses: Use a warm compress if the abscess is very inflamed and close to bursting. This can help soften the skin and reduce pain.
- Over-the-Counter Pain Medication: Ibuprofen can help with pain and inflammation. Always check with your doctor before starting any new medication.
- Loose-Fitting Clothing: Wear breathable, loose-fitting clothing, such as cotton, to reduce friction and discomfort.
- Limit Activity in Heat: Sweating and overheating can worsen HS symptoms. Stay indoors in air-conditioned environments or enjoy outdoor time during cooler parts of the day.

If the swelling persists or becomes unbearable, it's important to consult your dermatologist for further treatment options.
