What foods normally trigger your HS and is a certain food more triggering for you to eat than others? For me right now it's potatoes but I'm watching for more.

Hey Mo.....I have found sugar is my trigger........I am on the keto diet and have no HS since last fall. So potatoes are sugar believe it or not.....keto is no sugar, no carbs. Alot of people don't know that carbs turn into sugar when your body is processing them. So I've cut out potatoes, pasta, breads and rices. It was a bit hard at first....I was a real carb lover. Now it's easy. I still eat carbs....I still have special occasion dinners like Christmas....and that is alot of carbs. Potatoes, gravy (flour), stuffing (bread), any sauces on veggies (flour or cornstarch), cranberry sauce (sugar), pie (crust-flour) and filling (sugar). And of course a couple drinks, like wine (sugar). So it will cause a little flare in a couple days, and gone quickly. So worth a try, I LOVE having no HS symptoms. You can start by eating just meat and veggies basically. In a week or 2 you will notice quite a difference in your HS if sugar is your trigger as well. There are a ton of keto recipes on line. Keto also lets you have quite a few fats so you don't feel so deprived. Cheese is also on keto....it doesn't seem to bother me, although I don't eat alot....some HS people are affected by cheese. Maybe it has something to do with the balance of foods that cheese is ok? I also like a couple drinks. I bought a soda stream machine and have found lots of great flavours, similar to Mio. Also liquor has no carbs (rum, vodka etc). I think to lose weight you have to stay under 30 carbs. I cheat quite often....as long as I'm sticking to the diet, I can eat the odd chocolate bar. But just 1 thing occasionally! Good luck, let me know how it works out.....Hugs

Dear HS people......I disagree with you again when you talk about foods that can reduce HS. I have heard of keto diet working on a few people and reducing HS, but never heard of anyone on the Mediterranean diet that said it helped their HS. With keto you can have dairy, as well as high fat foods....like bacon is good....also I use high fat 35% whipping cream in my coffee (high in fat as well as dairy). You also say avoid animal products.....so that cuts out dairy and meat????? That is at least 70% of what you can have on keto. The Mediterranean diet also has carbs, which you don't seem to be aware of the fact that carbs turn into sugar when your body is processing them???? I think when you refer to dieting in this letter as well as the one I commented on yesterday, you are generalizing too much. Keto works for me, but not for everyone, although you are stating that people should stay away from several items on keto. I am in complete remission from being on keto.....absolutely NO HS, and I have had 2 spots that have leaked for years, and they have completely dried up. There are very few people of the thousands on this site that can say that!

- Processed Foods: Reducing intake of added sugar, sodium, and trans fats by cutting back on processed foods may also lead to weight loss and potentially improve HS symptoms.
- High-Fat Foods: Reports indicate that high-fat foods might worsen HS symptoms for some individuals.

Foods to Consider Including:

- Whole Foods, Plant-Based Diet: Some individuals find a diet rich in veggies, fruit, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains to be beneficial. Avoiding animal products, highly processed foods, refined sugars and flour, oils, and added salt may help manage HS symptoms.

Personalized Approach:
- Food Diary: Keeping a daily food diary can help identify dietary triggers and track changes in HS symptoms. This personalized approach can be beneficial as the impact of different foods varies from person to person.

Additional Tips:
- Dietary Counseling: Consulting with a dietitian or healthcare provider can provide tailored dietary recommendations to manage HS symptoms effectively.

By making mindful food choices and tracking their impact, individuals with HS may find relief and improve their overall health.

Malee.....keto works for me, but not for everyone......I feel so lucky I have found my trigger.....I would suggest you try.....you will know within 2 weeks if it works for you. If it doesn't work, try everything people suggest on this site. Something will give you some relief. I need to lose 50 lbs too. I am on keto, but I eat too much, so I don't lose weight. I also cheat often which takes me out of ketosis....although it does keep my HS at bay! Thank you so much for the compliments. I am a very positive person, and I feel all warm and fuzzy if I can help anyone!! Hugs to you!!!
