To be considered disabling for Social Security disability benefits, your hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) must meet the following criteria:

- Inability to Perform Basic Tasks: You must be unable to do basic tasks required for most jobs, such as standing, walking, lifting, sitting, and memory tasks, for at least 12 months.
- Severity of Condition: HS is listed under the category of skin disorders by the Social Security Administration. Your condition must be severe enough to prevent you from working.
- Impact on Previous Work: For SSDI, you must be unable to do any work you did previously. For SSI, it's not necessary to have a work history, but you must be unable to do any other form of sustainable work.

Additionally, your doctor should document your symptoms accurately, and you may need to provide medical evidence, including a list of medications, treatments, and tests related to your HS.
