Back Of Neck

A myHSteam Member asked a question πŸ’

Hello all I have a 15 year old daughter who has HS and currently has a flare on the back of her neck that practically immobilizes her. She wants to get an undercut but can’t because of the open wound. Any tips on mitigating the flare?

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) can affect the back of the neck. Here are some key points:

- Symptoms: Early signs include folliculitis (inflamed hair follicles) which can develop into deep lesions. Symptoms like itching, pain, stinging, or burning may occur 12 to 48 hours before a lesion appears.
- Appearance: Lesions can look like deep, pea-sized bumps, similar to acne cysts or boils. They can last for weeks or months.
- Complications: Lesions may burst, draining foul-smelling pus, and can leave scars and form tunnels under the skin.
