I'm sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis. It's true that hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and diabetes can be connected. Here are some key points from the knowledge base:

- Connection: People with HS have higher rates of diabetes, possibly due to unbalanced hormone levels and ongoing inflammation that affects insulin function.
- Risk Factors: Metabolic syndrome, higher body weight, and smoking can increase the risk of both conditions.
- Management: Lifestyle changes like a balanced diet, quitting smoking, and regular physical activity can help manage both HS and diabetes.
- Medications: Some diabetes medications, like metformin, can also help with HS. However, treatments for one condition can sometimes complicate the management of the other.

It's important to work closely with your healthcare team to find a treatment plan that addresses both conditions effectively.
