Do A Lot Of You Guys Have Therapists? I've Been Thinking Of Getting One Because My HS Is Really Effecting My Mental Health Lately.

A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

I've had HS for 8 years now. Even though it's the summer I'm still depressed because of my HS. It just sucks. I only get them on the groin area which is just so uncomfortable and hard to explain to others. Most days I can't even walk without pain.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I was interested in getting Better help even though it's costly. I'll look into if there is insurance. I'm glad it helped you and that your doing better now! I have no coping mechanisms right now and my HS is flaring up really badly. I'm also having suicidal thoughts. I'll try to get a therapist.

when i was 19 (i'm 22 now) i got a therapist mostly because my boss was a monster and i needed help with dealing with that but i told her about my HS and she was fascinated so she researched it. the next session she was ready to help me handle the negative feelings i had about my HS and my body image issues. i used better help and found a therapist that was but i paid out of pocket idk if they do insurance now. but i haven't had a therapist since October 2022 and i can honestly say it really helped. i had once a week sessions from October 2020 to October 2022. it helps that i had built up coping mechanisms from past trauma and just kinda repressed them for my HS and body issues.

Many people with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) find therapy beneficial for managing the mental health challenges associated with the condition. Here are some insights from the knowledge base:

- Therapy Benefits: Therapy can help reshape negative thoughts and identify false beliefs that may bring you down. It can also provide strategies for dealing with stress and distress tolerance.
- Types of Therapy: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is often recommended for people with HS. Other options include art therapy, hypnotherapy, and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.
- Mental Health Impact: HS can affect emotional health, impacting career, relationships, and social life. Stress from HS can trigger more flare-ups, creating a cycle of lowered self-esteem and possible depression.
- Community Support: On myHSteam, a social network for individuals with HS, many members share their experiences with therapy and mental health support.

Considering therapy could be a positive step in managing the mental health aspects of living with HS.
