I haven't wore deodorant in years. It covers your pours. Which is terrible for this condition

Yes, the type of deodorant you use can make a difference, especially if you have hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Here are some recommendations based on the knowledge base:

- Avoid Ingredients That Cause Irritation:
- Aluminum: Can block pores and cause allergic reactions.
- Parabens: Preservatives that can cause irritation and allergic rashes.
- Alcohols and Fragrances: Can cause allergic reactions.

- Recommended Products:
- Natural, Aluminum-Free Options: Brands like Native Deodorant, Kiss My Face, and Pretty Frank.
- Antibacterial or Antiseptic Properties: Products like Antibiotic Mitchum and Lume deodorant.

- Alternative Methods:
- Some people prefer to skip deodorants entirely and use flushable wipes or antibacterial soap.

Always consult your dermatologist before trying new products. Avoid applying deodorant on open wounds or lesions.

I was advised by my dermatologist to never use antiperspirants or deodorants as they clog the pores and a person with HS has an immune system that sees this as a foreign substance in the body and fights it. She said that’s where the infection comes into play. I’ve found that using patchouli soap helps as it has natural antibacterial and drying qualities. Also any type of charcoal soap is a good option too.

Yes! Some clog pores which is NOT helpful! Try the deodorant from The Mama AU (themamaau.com), she makes wonderful deodorants!

Hi! I totally think it makes a huge difference! It’s a transition for sure and you might stink a little at first, but that kind of eases up after you’ve been wearing natural for awhile. I would recommend Native Deodorant or Pretty Frank. They’re quite a bit pricier, but I think after a few months using them you will notice a difference.
