Well, first of all, good morning Frieda, and secondly All I can say is it's a hard journey. And there's so many emotions involved in it. Because rightly, there's nothing that you can do other than give them the support and love and don't have a judgemental attitude. And just be there for them. That's all I can say because that's what I do. It does put you in a helpless situation. Because you know there's nothing you can do other then watching them. Be in pain and hurt. It tears your heart out, but be there for them. Supporting them in every way possible, encouraging them is Basically all you can do. Love conquer all.❣️🙏❣️

Supporting a spouse or loved one with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) can be challenging, but there are several effective strategies:

1. Encourage Healthy Lifestyle Changes:
- Dietary Adjustments: Some people with HS have found relief by avoiding dairy, processed sugar, and flour. Others have benefited from avoiding beer and foods containing wheat or brewer’s yeast.
- Weight Management: Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the severity of HS symptoms.

2. Promote Mental and Emotional Health:
- Therapy: Encourage them to speak with a counselor or psychologist. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help develop coping strategies.
- Support Groups: Joining HS support groups, either in person or online, can provide a safe space to share experiences and frustrations.

3. Stress Management:
- Meditation: Practicing meditation can induce a sense of calm and balance.
- Daily Rituals: Simple activities like calling a loved one, exercising, or writing in a journal can help manage stress.

4. Professional Help:
- Medical Consultation: Encourage them to consult with their healthcare provider about symptoms of anxiety and depression. Antidepressant medications or other treatments might be necessary.

5. Open Communication:
- Acknowledge Feelings: Encourage open discussions about their feelings and experiences. Remind them that they are not alone and that their feelings are valid.

By incorporating these strategies, you can help your loved one manage their HS more effectively and improve their overall quality of life.
