Does Anyone Experience Hair Loss When They Get Flare Ups?

A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

I'm not sure if this is HS related, but I keep experiencing hair loss. Its been getting better then coming back on and off for the last year or so, but this time I noticed it started exactly when I had a really bad flare up. Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this?

Thank you for responding 💓 I have contacted my doctor and my bloods appear fine. My doctor wants to take futher investigation into why I'm suffering from hair loss and I have an appointment this friday. I have heard of telogen effluvium and thinking it may be this - fingers crossed I'll have some answers by the end of this week.

So I'm not a doctor and I'd definitely recommend seeing one, but this makes me wonder if you have another condition that can be caused by inflammation/autoimmune stuff. My mom doesn't have HS but she does has diffuse alopecia areata which causes hair loss. There's also telogen effluvium which can be caused by stress and all sorts of other things that causes on and off hair loss. Definitely talk to your doctor about it if you're concerned because there are things you can do to help it stop or at least slow down.

I would suggest having your Thyroid checked... ask for blood work to be done. Usually this is not HS.

Some places under my arm never grows hair where scarred tissue formed and during flare ups on my groin area there would be missing patches where hair didn't grow back or the hair turns white or the hair follicles would be so painful to touch I would have to tweeze them off so the pores don't get infected from a boil
