It sounds like you're dealing with a tough situation. Here are some points from the knowledge base that might help:

- Antibiotic Resistance: Many people with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) find that they become resistant to antibiotics over time. This can make treatment more challenging.
- Alternative Treatments: If antibiotics are not effective, other treatments might be considered. Hormonal treatments, such as oral contraceptives or Spironolactone, can be an option, especially if sex hormones are believed to play a role in your HS.
- Biologics: For advanced cases, biologics like Humira can be used to control symptoms. These are genetically engineered antibodies that help reduce inflammation.
- Corticosteroids: These can be used to reduce inflammation and prevent new lesions, but they are typically limited to short-term use due to potential side effects.

It's important to discuss these options with your healthcare provider to find the best treatment plan for you.

Nicola go with the direct link. I have been there. Your hormones changed. So you need to try either bioidentical hormones or birth control pills. Endocrinologist a good idea. And doctor of osteopathy better at treating complex immune based illnesses. Hugs. 🤗

Just want to add, I’ve had flucoxacillan, coamoxiclav, lymecycline, and other one I don’t remember as only on it two days, now I’m on rifampicin and clindamycin together, they are a 6 to 8 week course and I’m halfway through and haven’t had a full flare yet, I get little niggles and after a day or two they go down.
But please, push your GP to refer you as so many just don’t even know what this is.

I’m at my surgery every other day for dressing changes and my nurses are so lovely, but don’t understand, I say I feel it starting to flare up and they touch the area and go, “oh no it all looks lovely, no sign of infection” and I’m like no it’s deep within my armpit, I can feel it coming and like 2 days later there it is and I was fobbed off on more antibiotics that didn’t work.
Keep strong and talk about your feeling here don’t let it fester within as that really doesn’t help us xx

I’m sorry you’re going through all this. I’m uk based too, have you asked ur gp to be referred to a dermatologist?
I had to ask, and yes I am still on antibiotics but these ones seem to be preventing my site from reflaring up, and hopefully my inscision site can actually heal. fingers crossed it does help, because like you since September I have just been on so may antibiotics, also an a&e visit, which I left with more antibiotics as there were no beds.

I swear by using Apple cider vinegar. It helps to kill bacteria and pain and apparently is anti inflammatory too. I find that after a few days they either disappear or drain.
I would only use it on the part of the skin that can grow hair though… not once you get to the less hairy bits! Really feel for you… it’s horrible. :(
