Do patients today have to endure the invasive surgeries for HS that I did 17 years ago?

That’s what I did in ‘22. I’ve had no issues on the left side since then. However, this beast came back with vengeance on the right side. Now in July I’m going to do it all over again, what fun😬.

Surgeons can perform various types of surgeries for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in the armpit or groin area, including:

- Wide Excision: Removes HS lesions and some nearby skin, often involving apocrine sweat glands. This can be followed by a skin graft, which involves taking skin from another area (like the thigh or buttocks) to cover the wound. This results in a scar at the graft site.
- Unroofing: Removes the top layer of skin to expose and drain sinus tracts. Typically used for persistent and recurrent lesions.
- Excision: Can be regional (large areas) or lesional (individual lesions). It may require general or local anesthesia and can involve leaving the wound open to heal, which carries a risk of infection and longer healing times.

These surgeries aim to remove infected tissue and improve quality of life, though HS can recur in untreated areas.
