Has Anyone Ever Seen A Wound Specialist? Did You Find It Helpful?

A myHSteam Member asked a question πŸ’

I recently saw a wound specialist for the 1st time and while her support team (tech and nurse) were very nice and so considerate, the "doctor" was gruff and tried to completely negate my 45 years of experience with having HS by telling me that I need to wash my hands and use gloves before applying ointment and bandages. Like Wow! She tried to argue with me when I told her that I used Neosporin with pain relief to help with the burning pain that I have suffered with. Then, she tried to tell me… read more

You deserve better! Please do not go back to that doctor if you can help it. Where my country are you? I don't want to in front upon your privacy, please give your state but not your city. I see you Dr Christopher Seyed in chapel Hill North Carolina. He is one of the best HS physicians and surgeons. He does a lot research. I highly stressed trying to see him!

Technically, that horrible doctor you saw was correct about the gloves even though the lesions are not infected, you need to wear gloves or at least have impeccably clean hands so you do not infect the open wound.

But that doctor was dead wrong about antibiotics. A side effect of antibiotics can be anti-inflammatory action. I am on 50mg of doxycycline per day; 50 specifically because 50 is under the threshold of 100 mg needed for bacteriocidal action... It happens to be the sweet spot for me, but some people need 100 mg a day.

I have had unroofing surgery. I am also on 100mg of spironolactone daily. All together if you medications in surgery have helped me to not have any flare-ups! It has been about 3 months! Before I have surgery I was on both medications, and flare-ups are few and far between. You may wish to speak to a dermatologist to see if they think this would be an appropriate course of treatment for you.

Good luck and please keep us posted!
