A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭
Stewartstown, PA

I have Medicaid which a lot of dermatologists won’t accept. Does anyone have a recommendation in York or Lancaster county, PA? I’m also willing to go to Hershey.

I am I. Delaware it took me almost 20 years to find three of my 6 doctors who are actually working with each other and trying new treatments i know pa has way better Reumotology than Delaware also check out Philadelphia hospital I have been referred to md or pa but my state insurance doesn’t cover out of state which means I have to research and try to get doctors to listen. Most rheumatologist in DE treat arthritis and that’s what they see in every patient. I hope you get a good doctor soon.

Here are some tips for finding a doctor who understands Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS):

- Seek a Specialist: HS is a complex medical issue that requires specialized knowledge. If your dermatologist cannot answer questions or provide a proper diagnosis, ask for a referral to a board-certified physician who’s a specialist in complex medical dermatology. These specialists work at major hospitals and private practices and treat difficult, rare, or complex skin diseases like HS.

- Get Referrals: Your dermatologist or dermatology team may be able to help you find someone local who specializes in working with people with HS. Your insurance company, employer, or local mental health center may also provide referrals.

- Support Groups: Connecting with others who have HS can provide recommendations and support. Online support groups and social media platforms can be valuable resources.

- Knowledge is Power: Being informed about HS can help you vet doctors, ask the right questions, and know whether the answers you’re getting include sound medical advice.

Remember, it may take multiple visits to find a doctor who truly understands HS, but early treatment can lead to better outcomes.
