I do hate to contradict, it took two surgeries, but! I never had an HS outbreak under my arms again after two wide excision surgeries. It was painful and emotional at the time, but well worth it in the long run. I'm pretty homeopathic, but once the HS is out of control, I've never been able to back it off entirely without surgery. I no longer take any meds for my HS. I self treat, but I'd give anything for a prescription for clindamycin and prednisone! π£
Eddie, I've never had any of that, but I wish you would rethink and give up a few things that you eat instead of loading your body with drugs, injections and surgeries that will not stop your HS. Surgery will only fix that specific area. It will not get rid of your HS. Not sure about the drugs and injections either. I think there is not enough known about HS and Dr's do alot of guessing and trial and error!
OK! That posted! Let me try again! π I've never had the deroofing. All of my surgeries have been wide excision. The last medical review I read about it said that deroofing was better than wide excision. Less reoccurring HS symptoms and better healing time. If you are concerned about a particular drug, heed that warning! You can always stop taking a pill. But once you inject something into your body, it's there to stay. Look up the images of the surgery outcome your doctor is talking about. My first wide excision surgery was a terrible shock and nothing like what the doctor described to me. My mom nearly passed out when I removed the bandages for the first time and she was tough as nails! I was prescribed plaquenil for my lupus and when I read the side effects I refused to take it. I've seen other people who took it and I thank God I didn't! They are immobile! I hurt and suffer, but I'm not entirely immobile every day.
I had my first de roofing in the groin area done in November of last year and have scheduled 2 more since then because of tunneling that opens through the skin. If you get regular flares or open sores/tunnels I highly recommend - the most uncomfortable part is the injecting of local anesthetic after that you don't feel a thing until it starts to wear off. When it is wearing off it feels a bit weird, I took Tylenol for 2 days after mostly because I have a very active job and it was a bit sore - no worse than a flare for me.
Personally, with the proper wound care and dressing I found it very helpful - although it does leave a scar and I have not heard of any effective scar managements yet - I will be discussing with doctors in the next week to determine best approach to fade it.
I do think surgery would be alot better than pills, some of the side effects are deadly!
