I am having a Deroofing surgery. My surgeon said HS will never heal if you have a lot of tunneling. I have tunneling everywhere. I go in January I will let everyone know how is it. It's supposed to clear my HS along with Sterlara.

Hi Tracy!! I had this surgery many years ago and HS went dormant for years, close to 20 yrs to be exact. It came back a few years ago and my dermatologist put me on Cosentxy about 8 months ago and I have NO lesions. I still have the tunnel but because of the this drug, I don’t really need the surgery anymore. Hope this helps!

Deroofing surgery, also known as unroofing, is a procedure used to treat hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), especially in cases with significant tunneling. Here are some key points about deroofing surgery based on my knowledge base:

- Procedure: The surgeon removes the skin covering the tunnels formed under the skin, scrapes out the tissue inside, and allows the healthy cells to heal the wound.
- Effectiveness: Studies show that deroofing is generally successful and can prevent HS lesions from returning.
- Healing: It can take a few months to heal completely, and the procedure can leave significant scarring.
- Patient Experiences: Some patients have reported positive outcomes, with reduced flare-ups and improved quality of life after the surgery.

Good luck with your surgery in January!
