When Do You Seek Professional Help For HS?

A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

A little back story. I am back to stage 3 and it’s been quite the task managing it on my own. I haven’t had any healthcare professionals actually help me with HS since being diagnosed over 5 yrs ago. I have a lump the side of a golf ball that just won’t drain and I am terrified of getting it lanced at the hospital.

I’m so sorry!
I had de roofing done once so far and used nano gel to help with the heeling. I was very nervous going into it but I have since booked another one. I wouldn’t definitely recommend it!

Seeking professional help for Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is crucial, especially when:

1. Mental Health Symptoms: If you experience symptoms of depression or anxiety, such as feeling sad, hopeless, or apathetic for at least two weeks, it's important to seek professional help. These symptoms can be more common in people with HS.

2. Stress and Emotional Impact: The stress associated with HS can affect your career, relationships, and social life. If you find it difficult to manage stress or if it triggers more flare-ups, professional help can be beneficial.

3. Support and Coping: Establishing a relationship with a mental health provider can help you deal with the everyday stressors associated with HS. Regular counseling can help you stay positive and manage the psychosocial impact of the condition.

4. Referrals and Resources: Your dermatologist, insurance company, or local mental health center can provide referrals to mental health professionals who specialize in chronic conditions like HS.

5. Proactive Measures: Even if you aren't currently experiencing mental health struggles, finding a provider and establishing a relationship can be helpful for future needs.

Remember, addressing both the physical and mental health aspects of HS is important for overall well-being.

Nano gel also for me is not covered by insurance but I think there may be studies you can get into. The tubes are very tiny but the go a longgg ways. I have really found it to speed up the heeling. But in flares, if it flares again it opens again.

I appreciate the info. I was able to get it to pop on its own. I am definitely going to look up Nano Gel. Manuka Honey is so expensive.
