Managing odor associated with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) can be challenging. Here are some strategies from the knowledge base:

- Showering and Cleansing: Regularly showering and using antiseptic washes or cleansers recommended by your healthcare provider can help prevent both infection and odor.
- Antiperspirants and Deodorants: Antiperspirants reduce sweat and may have a beneficial effect. Deodorants mask odor but won't affect HS.
- Medications: Antibiotics like metronidazole can target specific bacteria that cause strong-smelling infections.
- Bandages and Dressings: Use absorbent bandages, such as ABD pads with Hypafix tape, or charcoal bandages to minimize odor. Change dressings regularly.
- Natural Odor Eliminators: Options include witch hazel, a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water, essential oils with carrier oils, and bentonite clay deodorants.
- Sealing Plastic Sheets: Use absorbent bandage material sealed with clear plastic adhesive sheets like Tegaderm to keep wounds clean and covered.

Always consult with your dermatologist to find the safest and most effective solutions for you.
