What Do You Do To Get Remission?

A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve had remission a couple years now. I use only Cereve soap. I use a separate wash close for arm pits and feet to not cross contaminate staph and funguses. To achieve remission from hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), here are some detailed steps based on your shared experience and my knowledge base:

Hygiene Practices
- Soap: Use only Cereve soap.
- Separate Washcloths: Use different washcloths for armpits and feet to avoid cross-contamination of staph and fungi.
- Shaving: Use a wet-dry electric shaver sanitized with alcohol.

Dietary Guidelines
- Fats: Aim for 10 grams or less of saturated fat daily. Avoid trans fats and fried foods.
- Refined Foods: Eliminate refined foods from your diet.
- Vegetables and Protein: Consume lots of vegetables and get protein from lean chicken and fish.
- Sugar and Additives: Avoid sugar, artificial sweeteners, and additives in spices. No diet soda.
- Olive Oil: Consume at least 2 tablespoons of olive oil daily for its liver-cleansing phenols.
- Coconut and Tropical Oils: Avoid these saturated fats.
- Salt: Limit salt intake to no more than 1,500 mg per day.
- Kefir and Kombucha: Drink 8 oz of 1% fat kefir and 3 oz of kombucha daily.

Cooking and Eating Habits
- Cooking Methods: Bake or roast food at temperatures below 390°F.
- Eating Out: Avoid eating out in restaurants due to unhealthy oils, high salt, and chemical additives.
- Fast Food: Allow fast food and soft-serve ice cream only once a month.
- Alcohol: Completely avoid alcohol.

Physical Activity
- Walking: Incorporate 5,000 to 10,000 walking steps per day.

Liver Health
- Diet Recommendations: Follow the University of Chicago and Canada.gov recommendations for a fatty liver diet.
- Liver Benefits: A clean diet and physical activity can help reverse liver scarring, which may improve skin health.

Additional Tips
- Food Storage: Carry your food in a cooler when away from home.

These steps, combined with a focus on liver health, have contributed to your remission from HS. Always consult with a healthcare provider before making significant changes to your diet or lifestyle.
