Has Anyone Had Success Controlling Their HS With Dietary Changes Alone?

A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

I'm curious if anyone has had success controlling their HS with diet changes alone. What did you do? I've just finished a 2 week round of doxycycline with zero improvement, in fact it seemed to get worse. Ive had the same sore since Nov 2022. I was recently diagnosed and prescribed doxy at a walk in clinic, and my first dermatologist appointment is next week so I'll find out what my options are then I guess. My mind is going down a rabbit hole thinking I'm going to be on hard-core antibiotics… read more

A few different dermatologist from New York, Louisiana, & Kentucky have offered quite a few 'solutions'. The one in New York offered the removal of the ducts formed by the repeat of infection in the same spot, then skin grafts. I refused that and he suggested either monthly or weekly cortisone and antibiotic shots in my groin, which I refused as well. Louisiana dermatologist had the solution of me taking a certain sulfur antibiotic twice a day for the rest of my life, but I didn't like that idea. The most recent dermatologist in KY said since I refused all the other options, I needed to routinely do my sits bathes, only use antibacterial soaps with no perfumes and dyes, and to completely stop shaving or grooming my groin area, which I cannot imagine how that would work. I feel like I'm just a ticking time bomb of outbreaks and boils, which are now appearing on my buttocks and now I have two recurring on my right armpit. It does feel so hopeless at times though, because I may be able to delay outbreaks, they refuse to STOP COMPLETELY

Thank you. My dermatologist wants me to join a clinical trial of biologics . I was shell shocked and forgot to ask what my other options were. I made a naturopath appt for this weekend. I'm gathering facts now to try and make an informed decision. If I could I would live in the bath lol. I've never heard of PRID. Thank you for the tip.

Diet changes helped me when I turned vegetarian for 15 yrs.. I had absolutely no breakouts or flares happening. I didn't eat sweets like that then, but as I got old and have a sugar demon lol I do get flares popping up here & there. I have controlled flares by using tumeric in everything. Shaving is the worse for us, try waxing that's better & no undies or get boy shorts no elastics. I've had H.S7 since I was 12 years old. You can read it on my story, I pray for healing for us all 💜 Bella

It’s hard. Hang in there. In the meantime if you can take a food sensitivity test. There’s a great company Everlywell you can select the test that you can afford I suggest the one with 188 gods etc and begin there. Then try eliminating those foods immediately. Try to eat a diet centered on fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds and stay away from anything that the test reveals you have a sensitivity too. Also try your own elimination diet cut out anything with YEAST, SUGAR AND WHITE POTATOES. Yeast is the silent killer and it’s in everything -that isn’t a whole food. Even healthy things like hummus. Journal 📓 when you have flares and then you can begin to develop a plan of action. Ask about the dermatologist about spironolactone. You got this, you are worth it.
