Just Had An I&D Done At Urgent Care For A Flare Up. Im Now On Naproxen & Diclofenac. Anyone Else Used These Two Medications After Draining?

A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

My left armpit is the problem child, as that one’s always getting flare ups. I’ve been doing great but 2 weeks ago I ate a HORRIBLE amount of bad food that triggered the flare, and nothing I did at home helped. I used hibeclense, my magic healer, CLn body wash, and the antibiotics/NSIDS i was prescribed last week to get the flare down. I went back today for my follow up and had to get it drained. I’ve had two surgeries on this area already before, and this time a drainage at UC. Im a little… read more

It sounds like you've been through a lot with your left armpit flare-up. After an incision and drainage (I&D), it's common to be prescribed medications like naproxen and diclofenac to manage pain and inflammation. Many people with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) have shared similar experiences, especially when flares are triggered by diet or stress. While I&D can provide temporary relief, it’s not a long-term solution, and recurrence is possible.

Some members of myHSteam have reported mixed results after I&D. For some, it helps reduce pain and pressure significantly, while others find that the area may take time to heal or experience new flares. Healing can also depend on how well the area is cared for post-procedure. Keep the area clean, dry, and avoid friction. If you’re concerned about recurrence, you might want to discuss other surgical options like deroofing or excision with your doctor, as these have lower recurrence rates.

For now, monitor the healing process closely, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider if you notice signs of infection or if the pain worsens. You’re not alone in this journey, and many others with HS understand the challenges you’re facing. Stay strong!
