Anyone Tried Going To Urgent Care For A Really Bad Flare?

A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭
Richmond, VA

I’ve had two flares facing each other right on my panty line. I can barely walk and the pain is driving me insane. Even trying to wash it in the shower I’ve throw up. I passed out a couple of times when moving the wrong way in my sleep. I am allergic to Ibuprofen. I tried tea tree oil to get it to go down and even suffered through a few baths to soak it. Normally I can distract myself from the pain, but this is making want to not be here anymore. The pain is shooting down the right side of by… read more

A Dermatologist can inject directly into the 2 areas to help with the pain. I don't remember the name of the injection but it contains lidocaine. This is going to hurt, but it's worth it and the only thing that helps.
I don't recommend having them opened and drained at the urgent care. This only causes more problems in my experience.

If you look at the HA foundation website, they list by city and state the best HS doctors in the country. Find one who actively treats HS.
It will make all the difference in the world.

If you have a dermatologist ask for a cortisone shot it relieves the pain for about a week. I too was in the same situation I could barely walk. But I made my way to the ER and they popped them and drained them. That was the most relief I’ve had so far. I hope you find some.

Definitely seek medical help. Hopefully you have a dermatologist and preventative treatments - if not it may be worth a chat with a specialist!

I had this a couple months ago here’s what helped me: naproxen (500mg) prescribed helps with pain and inflammation (the inflammation part takes a few days to start helping), some will get T3’s prescribed for pain. For the fastest relief I get kenalog diluted with lidocaine injected into the sore (when it’s this angry it hurts like a SOB but it does 2 things - drainage because they puncture it and takes the inflammation/ angryness away)

Hope you feel better!
